The collection of the pruning of the Penedès vineyards that are part of the VINEYARDS4HEAT project is being carried out this year 2019 by the Bodega Cooperativa de La Granada, which has taken on this task in a professional manner and has won the tender to supply the Vilafranca Heat District that is already managed by the Municipal Water Company; this installation will have much more activity this year, as it is about to take on part of the energy needs of the Ricard Fortuny Sociosanitary Centre, throughout the year.
The Bodega Cooperativa de La Granada has long been concerned about the environment and energy production; in recent months has participated in a project led by the Federation of Agricultural Cooperatives of Catalonia R + D + I for the wine sector in order to determine energy and water consumption and thus define strategies to minimize these consumptions and costs.
The expenses linked to energy consumption -mainly, electricity- and to water consumption during the cleaning tasks of the equipments have a great importance for the competitiveness of the sector.
The project has been carried out in a dozen cooperative wineries of different sizes and taking into account the set of factors that influence consumption, from the type of wine (white, red, rosé or cava) to the type of marketing (bottled, in carafes, in bulk …). The collaboration of the Rovira i Virgili University and the support of the Department of Agriculture have been counted on.
With these actions, the Cooperative winery of La Granada is at the forefront of the sector when it comes to protecting the environment and reducing CO2 emissions.
