On 18th January a group of technicians of Tarragona Provincial Council (where there are important wine-growing areas), as well as Mayors, Municipal Councillors and technicians from several municipalities of the area, such as Flix, Cambrils, Vandellós or El Montmell, visited the facilities of the District Heat of La Girada. The Environment Municipal Councillor, Josep Mª Martí welcomed them at the Regional Archive building, part of the District Heat, and also equipped with solar panels supplying electricity energy.

The Project Coordinator, Jordi Cuyàs explained how it had been developed, noting that it was the result of cooperation between biomass producers (vine growers), the recollectors (Nou Verd cooperative) and consumers, both wineries as the city council itself. During the presentation, it had made a special emphasis on two of the innovative aspects of the project: the participation of the Municipal Water Company as an element of marketing and guarantee process, which is about to expand the district to a social and health centre nearby, as well as the machinery that Nou Verd is promoting within VINEYARDS4HEAT to make a pruning that needs the least handling possible. Cuyàs encouraged the use of biomass as an energy source by the different administrations, and particularly of the agricultural biomass once it has been proved efficient in this program.

Then participants visited the facilities where the Environment technician of the City Council, Laura Carbó, explained the process and answered the questions of the attendees.
