The Network of Cities and Towns organized a technical visit on Circular Economy and Biomass, on September 26th, in Vilafranca del Penedès.

The visit is part of the series of workshops on the Circular and Green Economy promoted by the Network with the support of the Barcelona Provincial Council and the Environmental Forum Foundation.

The circular economy is an economic model aimed at achieving regenerative consumption and production systems that seek to achieve products and resources within a continuous cycle, preserving natural capital, optimizing renewable resources and minimizing non-renewable and system risks. The green economy goes further and incorporates aspects such as the social dimension and the resilience of ecosystems.

Cities play an important role in the circular economy, and it is an opportunity for their economic promotion, for the promotion of employment and for the financing of new business models. The industrial symbiosis is, in this sense, a tool for the practical application of the concepts of circular economy in the productive fabric.

The visit allowed knowing the results of the VINEYARDS4HEAT project, an experience of circular economic in Vilafranca del Penedès and the region.  Later on, experiences were shared by the Barcelona Provincial Council, the Mancomunitat Penedès-Garraf with the Sant Pere de Ribes Town Council, and the Vallès Occidental County Council.

To end the workshop, the district of La Girada in Vilafranca del Penedès and the facilities of Caves Vilarnau were visited.
