Last May 17th, they visited the project VINEYARDS4HEAT those responsible for the Research Area of Biomass and Bioproducts of the Scientific and Technological Investigation Center of Extremadura, Luis Royano and Jeronimo González, to know first-hand the functioning of the project. They visited the Heat District of la Girada where they were able to share with the engineer responsible for the boiler, Albert Casas, the whole process of start-up of the installation and check its normal operation with biomass vine shoots, ensuring the full viability of the use of this fuel originating from wine areas.

Later, they visited the headquarters of Nou Verd, where they could see the machine to collect the pruning, as well as to visit the centre where the collected branches are stored and we were able to exchange opinions with the technicians responsible of the cooperative. At noon, they met with the technicians of the project of the Town Hall of Vilafranca del Penedès with whom they deepened in the general framework, from the impulse of the idea and the involvement of many sectors, to the transformation of the Municipal Water Company so that it can market it,  through the various technical and organizational problems that have been overcome during this process.

In the afternoon, experts from Extremadura visited the Cavas Vilarnau where they were able to share with their manager, Damià Deàs, and the oenologist, Eva Plazas, the process that had led Vilarnau (Group González Byass) to make the decision to become integrated into the project and use the biomass of the vine, closing the productive circle, and the positive results that had been obtained. They visited the biomass boiler and directly knew the various measures of the company to improve sustainability both in the use of energy and in water consumption.
